The Art of… Focusing on Yourself: Getting Back to Your Self-Care Routine
Life gets busy, and sometimes our self-care routines are the first thing to go when schedules fill up. One minute, you’re sipping tea and journaling like a wellness guru, and the next, you’re eating cereal out of a mug while scrolling emails at midnight.
Sound familiar? Don’t worry - you’re not alone, and it’s never too late to refocus. Let’s hit the reset button with these simple tips for getting back on track with your self-care and staying there.
Start Small, Dream Big
You don’t need to commit to a two-hour spa session daily. Begin with small, meaningful habits - like drinking a full glass of water in the morning or taking five deep breaths before you start your day.
Schedule It Like an Appointment
Put your self-care time on the calendar, and treat it like a doctor’s appointment you wouldn’t miss. Whether it’s a 15-minute walk or an evening bubble bath, carve out time that’s just for you.
Identify What Makes You Feel Good
Self-care isn’t one-size-fits-all. Maybe it’s yoga or journaling. Or maybe it’s binge-watching your favourite show guilt-free. Whatever fills your cup, do more of it.
Set Boundaries
It’s okay to say no! Protect your time and energy by setting boundaries with work, friends, and even family. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. (This one’s a little hard for me - but I’m working on it!)
Keep It Simple
Forget complicated rituals that require a shopping list. Self-care can be as simple as enjoying a quiet coffee, stepping outside for fresh air, or reading a chapter of a book you love.
Make It Fun
Turn self-care into something you look forward to. Play your favourite music, light a candle, or turn your skincare routine into a mini dance party.
Check in With Yourself Regularly
Ask yourself, “How am I feeling today? What do I need?” Listen to your inner voice - it usually knows what’s best.
Forgive Yourself
Fallen off the self-care wagon? It’s okay. Life happens. Don’t waste time beating yourself up - just dust yourself off and start again.
Find an Accountability Buddy
Have a friend or loved one who also needs a self-care boost? Encourage each other and check in regularly. Self-care is more fun when shared.
Celebrate Your Wins
Got through the week and kept up with your self-care? That’s worth celebrating! Treat yourself to something small but meaningful - a fancy coffee, a new book, or an extra hour of sleep.
Remember, You’re Worth It
Self-care isn’t selfish - it’s essential. By focusing on yourself, you’re better equipped to handle life’s challenges and show up for the people who matter most. So, take a deep breath, put yourself back on your priority list, and start small. You’ve got this! 💛
